How To Prep Your Surface
Updating your old furniture can not only be cost effective but very rewarding! Whether it is some outdoor chairs or an old side table, it is important to prep the surface to ensure the paint sticks.
Prep Steps:
- Sand: Sand your piece of furniture with a sanding block. The size grit of sandpaper depends on the type of material you are sanding. With wood, use a 120-220 grit sandpaper depending on how rough the surface is. A 320 grit sandpaper is recommended for metal surfaces.
- Clean Dust: Sweep the dust from sanding up with a small broom and/or a toothbrush. Use a wet rag to wipe up any leftover dust that sweeping did not get.
- Clean/Degrease: You can clean the furniture with some water, vinegar, soap, and a sponge. Make sure to get all the surfaces, cracks and corners very clean to ensure your paint sticks. Once you are done scrubbing, be sure to rinse and let it dry
